Kriad Quarter Pony Stud Established 2008
First of all I bet you would all like to know how we got our stud name, Kriads? Kriads is simply two names put together, Kristel And Darryl, meaning Kristel and Darryls Quarter Pony Stud.
We have decided to breed Australias newest and most exciting breed, 'Australian Quarter Ponies'! We have started with a few beautiful pony mares and one or two small quarter horse and appaloosa mares that we had in our paddocks as they are true to type and will set us good as foundation mares. We hope to add a few more pure bred mares to the broodmare band in the near future or keep a few nice fillies from this years foal crop.
Kriads belive that quarter ponies should be of quality pony breeding mixed with good quarter horse blood. With these qualites we aim to produce great foundation blood to kick start the breed in Australia.
Around 80% of our mares are foundation ponies with the other 20% of the mares carrying lines of: MBJ Charmer, Impressive, Dually Cool (Imp) Cash on loan (Imp) Hill King Pistol, Mega Dream AAA, Nioka Prince Robinson AAA, D Bar Lil San Drifter, King Phillip (Imp) Lion Don (Imp) to just name a few with our stallions being quarter horse and carrying lines of: King Fritz, Docs Spinifex (Imp/Dec) , Letric Palyboy (Imp),Rare Chex (Imp), Walla On Top, Murrumbo Gold Chex, Big Red Chex, Lectro Lena San (Imp) Neverending Story, Smart Little Diablo (Imp) Smart Little Lena USA, Chucka So Smart (Imp) Peppy San Badger USA, Clover Drift (Imp) Doc Bar USA and Wise Bid (Imp) to name a few. With crossing these outstanding lines to our foudation stock we will be able to produce an allround sport and family pony of sound mind and conformation.
I have seen a lot of studs that bred small quarter horses or small appaloosas double register their mares now as quarter pony, and while thats fine, I beleive that they are still breeding and selling the same as before. It's great to have some old bloodlines but feel quarter pony breeders should branch out a little and show other countries what we can produce!
Kriads will not be following any trends with breeding, we hope to produce our own line of quarter ponies that will hopefuly in the near future be highly sought after and be a recognised name in quarter pony breeding.
All Kriads mares have been chosen for their great conformation and temperment as we endevour to breed horses "Quiet enough for a child but strong enough for a man".
Our mares come in a range of heights and colours so there is something for the whole family. The smallest mare, Penni, is 12.2hh with the largest mare being Honey at 15hh. All resulting foals will be under height (<15hh) with the help of our quarter horse stallions, Kriads Midnight Oil @ 14.1hh . As well as being able to choose from a different range of heights we have a wonderful range of coat colours and patterns to provide something for everybody! We have dilutes, double dilutes, paints, appaloosas, duns and taffy.
Most our mares are ridden horses with not a nasty bone in their bodies and are ridden in either halters or bitless bridles. They are excellent to ride and would all be suited as kids first or second horses, some even for the RDA! (Riding for the Disabled) Having said that our mares are very good work horses also who are athletic and are happy and willing to do a days work.
We expect to produce foals with great minds with a bonus of looks, colour and conformation. Our stallion/s are chosen for their great conformation, temperment and looks as well to complement our mares to help us reach our goal of producing outstanding quater pony offspring!
At the moment Kriads will only be breeding mares every second year as we would like to start competing on our mares on their years off. We will be retaining any un-sold progeny to start as 2 year olds.

In our website we have listed a few horses for sale, If you are interested please feel free to send us an e-mail for more info or pictures. Cheers.
